Hershey, Pennsylvania

It was an autumn October day when we arrived in the town of Hershey, Pennsylvania. We had expected the tourist attractions to be clumped together - much as one would find in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area near the Smoky Mountains, as well as in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Instead, the attractions were scattered among the quaint town of Hershey, Pennsylvania.

If you enjoy amusement parks, you should love Hershey, Pennsylvania. Your first stop might be Hersheypark where you will delight in sweet treats to a sweet ride on a rollercoaster.

The Harsco Science Center at Whitaker Center is filled with cool science exhibits - intended to amuse and entertain all ages. As one moseys over to City Island they will be engulfed by the beautiful Susquehanna River where they can enjoy a vast variety of activities - water gold, train rides, arcade games, horse drawn carriage rides or a walk over the Walnut Street Walking Bridge.

We enjoyed the street lights best which were huge replicas of the famous Hershey Kiss. The street lights were depicted in 'wrapped kisses' as in the photo we took to your right, and also of unwrapped chocolate kisses.

At this time, one can take a tour of the Hershey Chocolate Factory for free, and enjoy free treats at the end of the tour.

Be on the lookout for The Artisan Cheese Trail as well as wineries and vineyards in the area. One doesn't have to 'indulge' in order to enjoy the vineyards. Many serve grapejuice as well as mulled grape ciders which is so delicious.

After you're finished taking the Hershey's Great American Chocolate Tour, drop by the Hershey's Bake Shoppe - a chocolate lover's delight.

No need to fret about lodging, dining or shopping opportunities in the area, either. Hershey, Pennsylvania is fully equipped to meet your needs and desires - with national chains to delightful mom and pop stops.

We recommend the summer months for those who enjoy amusement parks and other tourist-related activities - but be kind to yourself amid the heat which at times can be stifling. For nature lovers, the fall months are perfect - particularly mid-October which is dressed in bright red and orange colors. The area is less congested, making exploring of the local nature parks most enjoyable.
