Pinnochio Nose Best,
a Kid's Campfire Story
Once upon a time
long ago lived a little wooden boy named Pinnochio. Pinnochio lived in
a very dense forest with Toad.
One day, Toad took
Pinnochio to town to eat at a diner. Toad enjoyed crablegs and noodles while
Pinnochio played with the items on the table. One was a little book of
matches.
Later that day,
when Pinnochio and Toad arrived home, Toad went to take a long nap.
He
was sleepy after his dinner of crablegs and noodles. Pinnochio was bored
and decided to play with the little book of matches that he'd found on the table
at the diner.
He tore one out
of the little book, then sniffed it hard. Wow! It smelled bad, and
Pinnochio didn't like that. He tossed it hard onto the sidewalk beside
the porch and suddenly he heard a hiss, then the little stick came to life!
Oh my! It
must have been a magic stick, he thought. The wind suddenly blew and the
magic fire leaped onto the yard. Pinnochio's mouth was a little round
hole, as he watched in a daze. He was so scared and didn't know what to
do.
If he went to get
Toad, he'd probably get into trouble for playing with the little magic book
of matches. If he didn't the fire would soon leap into the forest and
kill everything there. Perhaps he should try stomping it out, Pinnochio
decided, running towards the magic fire.
Just before he reached
the magic fire, Pinnochio realized that if he stomped the fire, he too would
catch on fire, for he was made of wood. Oh no. What could he do?
He
ran into the house and woke Toad. Toad raced outside and turned on the
water as quickly as he could. In no time the fire was out.
Toad turned to Pinnochio,
who was suddenly very frightened. He just knew that Toad was going to
scold him for starting the fire.
But Toad told him,
"What a good boy you are, Pinnochio! You have saved the forest from
being burned. I am very proud of you!"
From that day forward,
Pinnochio steered clear of magic books of matches.
