Little Red Riding
Hood Goes Camping
Once upon a time
long ago lived a little girl named Little Red Riding Hood. Red loved camping
out in the great big forest that was near her house.
So one fall day,
Red set out on a camping journey through the forest. She was searching
for just the right place to put up her tent. She walked and walked. Then
she walked some more. Finally, she came to a large grove of Grandmother
oak trees.
It was lovely here!
The bluebirds were fluttering about in the trees and the squirrels were
running all about the forest floor gathering nuts and berries for the long winter
that lay ahead.
Red quickly put
up her tent, then started a fire so she could enjoy a cup a tasty Kangaroo Tea.
When it was done, she settled back into her tent to rest and drink her
tea.
By and by she heard
a noise outside her tent. It was a huff noise. Not a mosquito noise.
Not a doggie noise. Not a meow noise, either. It was a huff
noise. A wolf noise. A great big bad wolf noise!
Red hugged her cup
of Kangaroo Tea closer to her and her eyes widened as The Big Bad Wolf suddenly
bolted into her tent.
"My, what
a BIG roomy tent you have," said
the Wolf to Red.
"Um, the
better to sleep in," she
replied.
"My, what
a BIG thick sleeping bag you have," said
the Wolf.
"The-the
better to sleep on," Red
replied.
"My, what
a BIG cozy cup of Kangaroo Tea you have,"
the Wolf pointed out, his lips suddenly dripping with slobbers as he hungrily
eyed the tea.
"Would you
like some?" Red asked.
"Please!
And I'll take a dab of honey in mine, if you have it?"
Red had brought
along plenty of honey, so she poured Wolf out some of the tasty Kangaroo Tea
and added a bit of honey. They spent the evening sharing scary tales about
some pigs they knew who lived in a nearby town.
