How
to Make an Active Volcano
Extremely
Easy Kid's Science Experiment

- You will need:
- newspaper
- water colors
- flour & water or glue
- small cup
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon of Baking Soda
Baking soda and vinegar make a powerful
combination! Begin by building your volcano. Make it only as tall
as your container, or elevate your cup so that it is near the top. You
will need to leave a hole in the top for the 'lava' to bubble out of. This
project takes a few days, as the volcano needs time to dry between layers.
Start by mixing a bit of flour with water
until you have a smooth consistency. This will be your glue that will
bind layers of newspaper together. You should build your volcano one layer
at a time. Allow to dry between layers to allow your volcano to strengthen.
Next, paint your volcano. Finally,
place the cup inside your volcano. Fill the cup with the vinegar, then
add the baking soda and watch it explode!
Your child may enjoy a few prehistoric
toys set out around the volcano.
The volcano is good for multiple eruptions.
