Wanda Sheep
Liked to Wonder & Wander
A children's short story.
Wanda Sheep lived in a comfortable little pasture that was covered with a pretty green blanket of tender grass. Wanda Sheep should have been terribly happy, but she liked to wonder and she liked to wander…
Each day Wanda Sheep would stand and gaze off into the distance where the blue sky ended. All day long, every day, Wanda Sheep would wonder what lay beyond the blue sky. Was it a field of greener grass? Or maybe the grass was a pretty orange, she would wonder.

From time to time, Wanda Sheep would wander towards the end of the blue sky, but no matter how far she walked she was never able to reach the end of the blue sky to see what lay beyond.
One night as Wanda Sheep lay underneath a bright yellow moon she decided that tomorrow she was going to keep walking until she saw what was at the end of the blue sky. That night, she slept so soundly that her snoring woke three other sheep within the flock.

Morning came swiftly. Wanda Sheep was eager to wander towards the end of the blue sky so she barely nibbled on the green and tender grass as she made her way through the distance.
By and by the sun was high overhead and though Wanda Sheep was growing tired she continued on her way, determined to see what lay beyond the blue sky. The green blanket of tender grass had slowly disappeared and beneath her was a layer of choking dusty earth. She was so hungry and wondered why she had not eaten more before setting out on her journey.

Wanda Sheep continued to wander, and wander, and wander and finally the sun began sinking in the distance. "Oh my," Wanda thought, "I have reached the place where the sky ends. But there isn't any green grass here. There isn't even any pretty orange grass here. There is only the black night, the same black night that I have back home. And I am so far from my flock that I cannot get back. Oh, what will I do?" Wanda Sheep wondered.
Wanda Sheep was very frightened and felt very alone. She longed to return to her flock and her blanket of tender green grass.
Suddenly, Wanda Sheep heard a stirring in the distance. She narrowed her sheep eyes and made out three friends from the flock! They had come to rescue her! Wanda Sheep was so happy to see her friends.

It wasn't easy getting back home and it wasn't until two days later that Wanda Sheep felt rested from her terribly unhappy journey.
She stood looking into the distance where the blue sky ended and wondered why she had ever wandered from her wonderful green pasture, and she promised herself that she would never wander again.
