Creating a Cute Popcorn Chicken

House of Hen, Special Kid Project

Pop goes the chicken! This is a very simple kid craft that can be completed in a very short time. It is fun, it is creative, it is inexpensive, and practically stress free…

What you will need:

- One small piece of cardboard or posterboard.
- Unpopped popcorn.
- Food coloring (totally optional)
- A few squares of colored felt or fabric for creating the beak, eyes, and legs.
- Something to mark off your chicken pattern with such as a crayon, pen, or pencil.
- Glue, either bottled or hot glue with adult supervision, of course!
- Yarn (optional as well)

Either you or your child can draw a rough sketch of a chicken. If you want to have a chicken with an unusual color, then sprinkle a few drops of food coloring into a paper bag, or a plastic bag, or a bowl and then, mix.

Begin gluing the unpopped popcorn kernels onto your pattern. Next, make the beak, eyes, and any other parts you want to stand out by cutting the fabric and filling in these areas. You won't have to be specific, or have the talent of Norman Rockwell. Any non-professional shapes will add to the uniqueness and 'cuteness' of the project!

Once you have everything in place, allow your chicken to dry. Hang where desired and enjoy! Also, be sure and ask your child to name the chicken.
