Keeping The Great Outdoors GreatOur current outdoor stage was prepared for our enjoyment by our fathers and forefathers. During your outdoor adventures, how can you help preserve its beauty for future generations? Some of the State Parks have adopted a very suitable phrase to encourage visitors to leave the land as they found it. Part of the phrase is: Take only pictures, If you are searching for ways to help Keep America Beautiful, please take a glance over some of the suggestions below.
- When hiking the land, carry along a few small trash bags. As you explore, pick up any liter along the way. Not only will you beautify the area for the next 'land walkers', but you'll feel good about your contribution. - If you are out and about with your pet, specifically a dog, be sure and clean up any 'surprises' it may create along your journey. This is the unsung rule of any responsible dog owner. - If you smoke, don't trash the land when you're done. Wildlife could eat any discarded part of your 'smoke' and become ill. In addition, it takes a long time for this substance to go back into the land, and even when it disintegrates, it infuses the land with pollutants found in the tobacco product. - If you come across an area that's filled with nuts, fruit or berries, keep in mind that the local wildlife depend on these native foods for survival. - Take care not to disturb nests or burrows along the way. - When fishing, abide by the established legal limit. - Teach children about the delicate fiber of nature; discourage destructive activity such as breaking branches on trees, throwing rocks into water, and littering. Teach them about the importance of all creatures of nature, such as snakes. Instill respect and admiration rather than fear. - Pick up your firewood in town before heading out on your adventure. Even dead trees provide substance for wildlife and should not be disturbed because it has a direct effect on the balance of the ecosystem. These small things add up to big things in the long scope of things! Commendations to all of you who pitch in to Keep the Great Outdoors Great! Click Here to Return to American Outback |
