Fishing, Boating & Sailing at Lake Arrowhead, Texas A stone's throw from the Red River boundary separating Texas from Oklahoma, Lake Arrowhead is a fisherman's paradise. On one arm of the lake lies Lake Arrowhead State Park which is fitted with a rite-nice fishing pier - often so peaceful that the local birds fly right down to settle in beside the fishermen. On my last visit, a large crane was perched not ten feet from a fisherman. The experience is something that I'll never forget. Lake Arrowhead State Park contains over 100 miles of shoreline, as well as a Prairie Dog town. They've gone a bit wild, however as they are moving their homes out into the paved road now. How they managed to dig through the pavement is beyond me. Lake Arrowhead State Park also contains plenty of camping spots for both tent campers and RV'ers. Even a place for horses and horse lovers. The sky is generally so dark that you can see the Milky Way on most
any night as the closest 'busy' town is Wichita Falls - about a twenty minute drive, putting a great distance between the lights of the city and the sky at the Lake Arrowhead State Park. Sailboats can be seen a-plenty on Lake Arrowhead. This photo was taken in August near sunset. And let me tell you about the sunsets here - so pretty that you won't believe your eyes. A 'secret' spot that is well-known to the locals rests on the other side of the damn. Go across the dam, then keep driving until you see 'Osage' street. Go down two more streets. Turn to the right (only way ya can turn) and go to the end. There is a nice little beach there and a boat ramp.
