HIKING - PRIMITIVE
CAMPING
Primitive camping may be miles
from civilization OR a secluded distance from a campground that
has modern facilities. Camping away from the 'people stream' is
something that many campers find much more enjoyable due to privacy
and the possibility of making new discoveries.
If you have to hike in a good distance, you'll want to pack light and lean. Water, food, bedding,
and a lightweight tent are all a must. You'll also need items to
start your fire, a flashlight, and cooking gear.
My oh my, all of this essential
gear quickly adds up to a heavy pack on the back. You don't want
to look like Quasimodo by the time you reach your destination, but
keep in mind that even if you are a bit burdened on the hike in,
you'll be a lot less burdened on the hike out due to water use,
and food consumption.
One this is for certain.... Whether
you go where the coyotes howl or the cicadas sing, you won't see
a clearer Milky Way or blanket of stars than when you're far from
the lights of the city.
